In what year was Unibanco established, and where?

A federal charter is granted on September 27, 1924, authorizing a small-town prominent merchant to open a banking department. That was Casa Moreira Salles of Poços de Caldas, in Minas Gerais, founded by João Moreira Salles in 1918. This is how Unibanco, now the third-larger private bank in Brazil, took the initial steps into what was to become a remarkable journey.

What is Unibanco's profile? How is the bank organized?

Unibanco, founded in 1924 and presently the third-largest private-sector financial group in Brazil, provides a wide range of financial products and services to a diversified individual and corporate customer base of all income segments. Our businesses comprise Retail, Wholesale, Insurance and Pension Plans and Wealth Management. Unibanco enjoys solid market positioning in all its product areas.

Retail - Serves individuals of all income levels (except Private Banking) and companies with annual sales up to R$150 million. It also operates in the consumer finance segment through Fininvest, Banco Dibens, PontoCred and LuizaCred brand names and through its partnership with Sonae. In the credit card segment, Unibanco operates through Unicard, Fininvest and Hipercard.

Wholesale - With a strategy that blends regional knowledge and industry-specific expertise, focused on a long-term relationship, the Wholesale serves companies with annual sales greater than R$ 150 million and institutional investors.

Insurance Group - Unibanco AIG Insurance and Pensions offers individual, as well as corporate, life insurance, auto insurance, pension and retirement plans, in addition to a variety of related products and services. The company has been growing at rates consistently higher than market averages and has been consolidating its position as one of the largest Brazilian companies in its industry.

Wealth Management - Unibanco integrated in the first quarter of 2002 its private banking activities and its subsidiary Unibanco Asset Management under the umbrella of a new division, named Wealth Management.
